This 1,750sf (162sm) residence is in The Turin, a 1909 neoclassical-style apartment building overlooking Central Park. The original apartment, as was typical for apartments in Manhattan from this time, was divided into small rooms with little-to-no relation to one another.  ACHA’s design drastically reconfigured the spatial structure of the apartment by creating an enfilade of rooms along its Central Park-facing edge, expanding the perception of space into sequences of public and private rooms.

Several years later, the owner’s purchase of an adjacent space in the building enabled ACHA to continue this design. The detailing and material finishes of the renovation respected the building’s original time period, while integrating a centralized air-conditioning system. During the renovation, ACHA worked closely with the Landmarks Preservation Commission to ensure that the building’s façade was uncompromised by the renovation and the new mechanical equipment.
